The Investors Savings Bank Foundation, which awards charitable grants to not-for-profit organizations in the communities served by the bank, has provided $2,000 to support arts education at Unity Charter School, located on Speedwell Avenue in Morristown. The tuition-free public school, which receives only a portion of the public funding allocated to traditional public schools, was recently forced to eliminate two art teacher positions due to budget constraints.
Unity Charter School's more than 100 students receive a top-quality K-8 education in an environment that emphasizes the safeguarding and sustainability of the planet's resources. The school has received numerous national accolades for its zero-waste vegetarian lunch program, which promotes the importance of nutrition and healthy eating habits.
"This is Unity Charter School's 12th year in operation since it introduced a new, innovative teaching model that focuses on sustainability while meeting all New Jersey core-curriculum standards," said Dolce Vieira, Board of Trustee at Unity Charter School. "Thanks to the generosity of individuals and corporate partners like the Investors Savings Bank Foundation, our mission to promote education for a sustainable future through the arts will continue."
"Unity Charter School is empowering children to become better stewards of the natural resources with which they have been entrusted," said Investors Savings Bank President and CEO Kevin Cummings, who serves on the Investors Savings Bank Foundation's board of trustees. "The school's talented faculty is making a profound positive difference in the lives of their students, and they deserve our support."
